Seven leaders of the world (also known as the G7) - including the Chancellor of Germany (Cate Blanchett), the Prime Minister of Canada (Roy Dupuis), the P.M. of the U.K. (Nikki Amuka-Bird), the POTUS (Charles Dance) and the French President (Denis Ménochet) - meet up in Dankerode, Germany to discuss crucial issues facing their respective countries, but after drinking and dining at a gazebo they find themselves surrounded by fog, their assistants are missing and they're unable to escape to safety. It starts off promisingly enough with its Buñuelian setup and tongue firmly in cheek, but then proceeds to do nothing even remotely memorable with it: the group wanders around, encounter onanistic "bog people," spot the Secretary-General of the European Commission (Alicia Vikander) next to a giant brain, there's an AI chatbot that targets pedophiles, etc. "Surrealism" is generally difficult to "pull off" effectively and the movie is too casual to make any stinging points pertaining to the state of the planet: if it's about how global warming is going to be the end of us all, that needed to be explored in closer detail. If it's trying to portray these "esteemed individuals" as dumb-dumbs, well ... we already knew that.
