Deadpool & Wolverine
Director: Shawn Levy
Year Released: 2024
Rating: 2.0
Anti-hero Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is living an "ordinary life" working as a car salesman (he has friends, too!) when he's informed by Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen) of the Time Variance Authority that they plan on wiping out his timeline, so he journeys around the multiverse to locate a capable version of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to save his planet ... oh, and Professor X's sister Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) is residing in The Void and she's a major annoyance. It isn't so much a feature film (the "plot" is daft as usual) as a collection of snippy comments, homoerotic "humor" (presumably for Gen Z), plenty of fourth wall breaking and enough 'fan service' to make an anime producer overwhelmed with glee ... and Levy is unfortunately way too fond of turning on the slow-motion (and pop songs) when he has his two main characters fighting with others (and themselves). I wonder if the five credited screenwriters (including Reynolds) got together, ingested a carton of Pixy Stix, chased it with multiple bottles of Mountain Dew Baja Blast and decided to scribble down every screwy idea they could come up with knowing Disney was signing the cheque ... although at least they didn't skimp on the gore.
