Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person
Director: Ariane Louis-Seize
Year Released: 2023
Rating: 1.5
Ever since she was a little vampire, Sasha (Lilas-Rose Cantin as a "child," Sara Montpetit as a 68-year-old "young adult") was revolted by the prospect of murdering humans for blood (she has compassion for the victims), but when she "ages" and meets depressed Paul (Félix-Antoine Bénard), she thinks she can change, if only her crabby and pushy cousin Denise (Noémie O'Farrell) would give her space. If Gen Z was waiting for a "horror" movie that fit their worldview this might be close to it - the title gives that away - and while the premise is a slightly progressive take on a classic genre, it's a bit of a tonal mish-mosh (sometimes it leans towards comedy, other times it tries being serious) and feels padded for length (it could have been trimmed a tad). Also, in keeping with the Fear of Intimacy theme: there's that (traditional) "post-coital" shot on the bed ... except they both have their clothes on and no sexual contact has taken place. I don't know, kiddos: you're missing out on a pretty fun part of the Earthly Experience....
