The Fall Guy

Director: David Leitch
Year Released: 2024
Rating: 1.0

Well-respected stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling), who's enamored with cameraperson Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt), severely injures himself as the double for movie star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and drops out of the biz for eighteen months before being contacted by super producer Gail Meyer (Hannah Waddingham) to work on Jody's directorial debut Metalstorm ... and then lead actor Tom goes missing, and Colt has locate him to complete the picture.  It's "based" on a TV show from the early 1980's (that I vaguely recall watching a few episodes of) and although I appreciate the admiration shown to those individuals willing to risk injury (and worse) for our silly entertainment, this is atrociously written and becomes progressively infuriating to sit through: the "broken love connection" between Colt and Jody (which is "vocalized" using megaphones) doesn't have emotional weight, it's lacking in humor and while there are plenty of car flips and explosions, audience members who are older than ten years old might find them groan-inducing quickly.  It's not a positive sign when Tom's ubiquitous Post-Its are more amusing than any of the lines delivered, and it somehow wastes the presence of both Gosling and Blunt, who struggle to keep it engaging.  "Download Bullet Train" reads one note: nah, you should skip that too....
