Irish Wish
Director: Janeen Damian
Year Released: 2024
Rating: 1.0
While in Ireland attending the wedding of her friend Emma (Elizabeth Tan) and writer Paul Kennedy (Alexander Vlahos), book editor Madeline (Lindsay Lohan), who's not-so-secretly in love with Paul, makes a wish that she was the one actually marrying him that gets granted by the very sneaky Saint Brigid of Kildare (Dawn Bradfield) ... except it turns out her genuine feelings are for nomadic nature photographer James Thomas (Ed Speleers). This is another instance of Netflix attempting to out-do The Hallmark Channel, with the Emerald Isle looking like a soap commercial and Madeline finding no shortage of objects to bump, run into or tumble over - it's a hopelessly plastic rom-com, although to its star's credit she's surprisingly game for the hokeyness, and certainly no stranger to "fantasy"-like stories. There's also something peculiar in casting Lindsay - who has quite an extensive history of addiction and legal problems (feel free to look them up) - as this Angel of Goodness: what's next, Charlie Sheen as The Tooth Fairy?
