Saturn Bowling
Director: Patricia Mazuy
Year Released: 2022
Rating: 2.0
Police officer Guillaume (Arieh Worthalter) informs his creepy half-brother Armand (Achille Reggiani) that their father passed away, they inherited his modern bowling alley and he wants him to manage the place - just a month later, Guillaume falls in love with animal rights activist/"eco-terrorist" Xuan (Y-Lan Lucas) while corpses of young ladies keep mounting and he's slow in figuring out who the killer is. Stylistically, it's very striking (pun intended) with the bright neon lights adding a glitzy contrast to the naked and disfigured bodies, but it's lacking elsewhere: background details about the two men are sparce and they're basically reduced to having unresolved Daddy Issues, with Guillaume committed to "preserving the peace" whereas "black sheep" Armand engages in violent sex. It seems as if director Mazuy is attempting to make an argument that "big game hunters" - who use the title location as a hang-out spot and kill lions for "fun" - and a rapist-murderer are essentially no different from each other ... which is quite the overgeneralization (although they're all clearly contemptible).
