Anger Management
Director: Peter Segal
Year Released: 2003
Rating: 1.0
Following an incident on an airplane in which Dave Buznik (Adam Sandler), an executive assistant at a pet products company, is tased for asking for headphones (because the flight crew believes he's being "aggressive") he's ordered to take anger management classes with well-regarded therapist Dr. Buddy Rydell (Jack Nicholson), who then moves into Dave's apartment ... and then proceeds to torture him. It goes without saying that I don't think any of Dr. Rydell's "methods" are APA-approved and the "narrative" consists of a string of events whose only purpose is to humiliate and punish Dave - stopping the car in the middle of traffic to sing "I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story, "hiring" prostitute Galaxia (Woody Harrelson), setting him up with weight-conscious actress Kendra (Heather Graham) - however I did find the encounter with former bully-turned-monk Arnie Shankman (John C. Reilly) to be amusing (childhood wounds get suppressed but never vanish). Dave "winning back" the love of his life Linda (Marisa Tomei) - after Rydell "stole her" - shouldn't require putting a halt to a Yankees game ... although it is weird to see "America's mayor" Rudy Giuliani (as "himself") shown as a respectable politician. Twenty years sure can change a man....
