As punishment for being temperamental and losing his composure often, soccer coach Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender) is sent to American Samoa to try to "fix" their pathetic team (which once lost 31-0 to Australia in a qualifying match at the 2002 FIFA World Cup), but finds they're not even remotely talented, resistant to instruction and he doesn't have the patience required to improve them.  It's "inspired" by a true story (there's a 2014 documentary with the same title), but it's really a less-amusing version of The Bad News Bears, with Rongen as the boozy grump and the players acting like complete dolts, with "jokes" and sight gags that are most likely unamusing to anyone but the director (who can't resist inserting himself as a priest).  However, I do think it tries to handle the situation involving Jaiyah Saelua (Kaimana) with respect and delicacy - she's a trans woman (or a "fa'afafine" in Samoan culture) - although I'm sure there are sections of the Internet that will have some sort of issue with it.  Also, if all it takes for a squad to win is to tell them to be "happy," why hasn't that message been preached to my beloved Philadelphia Flyers?
