Monsieur Konigsberg ... en français: writer Alain Aubert (Niels Schneider) just so happens to meet former high school classmate Fanny Fournier (the adorable Lou de Laâge) on the street and aggressively pursues her despite the fact that she's married to sketchy Jean (Melvil Poupaud), whose previous associate died in a suspicious manner and his job involves making "the rich even richer" (when not playing with toy trains) - once Jean suspects his wife is unfaithful, he hires a private security firm to pursue her ... and then arranges for Alain to "disappear." It's a shame that Allen, currently in his late eighties, can apparently no longer secure proper funding in the States to make his movies due to "past incidents" and is forced to work in a foreign language that I don't think he fully grasps, and although it still has the "feel" of one of his 'traditional' works (most notably with the quick dialogue and, of course, the jazz soundtrack) it comes across as a bit of a parody of a light but "sophisticated" French picture (there's a ton of talk about travelling to the "countryside," hunting for sport, casual infidelity, etc.) and the conclusion is particularly sloppy, in which Jean thinks he can get away with "accidentally" shooting Fanny's mother Camille (Valérie Lemercier). Is he going through the motions out of spite? Probably. Is it at least better than Rifkin's Festival? Mercifully, yes.
