Although he lives in Portland, Eric (Michael Cera) decides to take a quick trip back to his hometown to visit friends and spend a little time with his two sisters Rachel (Hannah Gross) and Maggie (Sophia Lillis) - Maggie is delighted he's returned, but Rachel appears to have lingering issues with him. Granted you can look past the central contrivance keeping Eric there longer than he intended - he's apparently a poker addict and extends his stay to keep playing - what you have left is well-worn territory (don't make me quote the title of a Thomas Wolfe novel) about familial dysfunction, which seems to be "rectified" with silly song-and-dance numbers, passive-aggressive comments and highly dubious impersonations (but I do like Cera's imitation of Tony Soprano). The suggestion that even emotionally stunted individuals can find a way to "reconnect" and move beyond previous grievances is nice ... but doesn't necessarily apply to all real-life scenarios.
