Thanksgiving

Director: Eli Roth
Year Released: 2023
Rating: 1.0

A year after there was mayhem at the Right Mart in Plymouth, Massachusetts on Black Friday in which several people were killed (hey, they were giving out free waffle irons!), a madman dressed as the pilgrim John Carver shows up with an axe and starts making threats to local teens - including Jessica (Nell Verlaque), Gaby (Addison Rae) and Scuba (Gabriel Davenport) - using social media.  This is an attempt, just as with Machete and Hobo With a Shotgun, to make a feature film out of a trailer featured in 2007's Grindhouse and it doesn't work at all: the original three minute spot was memorably creepy and darkly hilarious, yet this has some questionable acting and is rather mundane ... that is, until one of the characters gets properly seasoned and cooked like a Thanksgiving turkey, which is when it becomes a little wacky.  The "final reveal" of the actual killer's identity is quite implausible, but it's not as if this was a well-thought out project in the first place - for a real challenge, someone should try to convert Edgar Wright's Don't into a full-length movie....
