New Year's Evil

Director: Emmett Alston
Year Released: 1980
Rating: 0.5

A man who refers to himself as "Evil" (Kip Niven) calls DJ Blaze (Roz Kelly) while she's hosting a televised New Year's Eve party and tells her he's going to go on a killing spree corresponding to the different time zones of the United States and that he's saving her for last, so she secures police protection and then he starts stabbing people, including a nurse, two ladies he meets in a bar and a biker.  This is a Golan-Globus production so you know right away the quality isn't the best, and then it proceeds to be inept at being both a punk rock movie and a slasher, since it's neither fun to listen to and Evil's rampage isn't exactly skillfully directed.  That said, after having spent the first half wondering what the killer's motive was, I was surprised to discover that it's about a nutjob who really hates his wife (which many individuals can no doubt relate to).  My favorite bit of dialogue: "I can hear your heart beating.  I don't like that."
