A group of twenty-something's sit outside their apartment complex, stare into the street, play cards, drink, fight out of boredom and pay for sex with each other's partners. Accurately captures modern-day angst and ennui? Certainly, but sitting through a film of people looking morbidly unhappy wears on you after a while, your boredom and unrest paralleling their disenchantment with life (it is no doubt Fassbinder's point but that doesn't make it any more tolerable). Must have been a profound influence on Jarmusch's work, especially Stranger Than Paradise.
