Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain
Director: Paul Briganti
Year Released: 2023
Rating: 0.5
Comedy troupe Please Don't Destroy tries to make a feature ... and it's a dud: three buddies (Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy as "themselves"), who are also co-workers, remember they found a magical compass when they were children, then set out to find the lost and extremely valuable bust of Marie Antoinette supposedly hidden on Foggy Mountain, but are closely followed by two park rangers, Lisa (Megan Stalter) and Taylor (X Mayo), and then encounter a cult led by Deetch Nordwind (Bowen Yang). There are a few solid one-liners scattered throughout, but as other sketch comedy teams have discovered in the past (like Kids in the Hall and The Lonely Island), it's significantly easier to write a decent five-minute long bit for Saturday Night Live than a ninety minute movie, and most of this is cringe-inducing and sub-sitcom level humor. Not surprisingly, the funniest character in here is outdoor retail store owner Farley, who's played by the inimitable Conan O'Brien ... and he wisely retreats to his office during the "big brawl."
