Foe

The Earth has eroded due to climate change and so waitress Henrietta (Saoirse Ronan) and her husband Junior (Paul Mescal) receive a visit from Terrance (Aaron Pierre), an employee from the aerospace company OuterMore, to inform them that Junior was waitlisted to leave the planet and stay on a space station, but there would be a "human substitute" of him that would take his place - naturally, this makes both of them extremely upset.  The two leads are asked to essentially carry this mindless bit of fluff that doesn't really do much with its science fiction angle and wastes a lot of screen time with a vague premise and terrible dialogue - the "Beyond the Sea" episode of Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror series has a similar idea but is considerably smarter and gets it done in eighty minutes.  Even the "twist" ending it's supposed to build up to fails: why couldn't they have swapped out the "fake" Junior with the same tactfulness they sent in the "cloned" Hen?
