Five Nights at Freddy's

Director: Emma Tammi
Year Released: 2023
Rating: 0.5

Recently fired mall cop Mike (Josh Hutcherson) is at risk of losing custody of his "special" sister Abby (Piper Rubio) so he accepts a position to work as the night shift security guard at the abandoned Freddy Fazbear Pizza (modeled, I'm guessing, after the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant chain) where the animatronic animals are possessed by ghosts ... and they want to make Abby one of their own.  This is based on a video game series (that I admittedly never played) but instead of at least making an effort to be scary it chooses to focus almost exclusively on the characters' "personal issues" (much to its detriment), and it doesn't hold up to the slightest bit of scrutiny (the premise itself is incredibly flimsy).  I think the 2021 Nicolas Cage vehicle Willy's Wonderland, although flawed itself, still does a better job with a similar setup: no whining about lost brothers or bad fathers, just fighting.
