Financial analyst Emily (Phoebe Dynevor) is secretly engaged to her co-worker Luke (Alden Ehrenreich) at One Crest Capital, a dodgy fund run by less-than-tactful Campbell (Eddie Marsan), but when she gets a promotion and becomes Luke's boss - and proves she's better at managing money than him - it puts a major strain on their relationship. This tries to be an "erotic thriller" (akin to something Michael Douglas would have starred in decades ago) but it's neither sexy nor exciting - the love making scenes are comically overdone and much of the dialogue that doesn't involve talk of short selling securities or balancing portfolios is atrocious (a bag of Doritos? hazing the freshmen?). For whatever reason, it never feels like anything is truly at stake, and once a despondent Luke starts drinking heavily and listening to those "alpha male" seminars the whole thing's doomed and his breakdown is inevitable. By the way, if you ever sit down with an investment firm and they promise you "magical returns," snag a complimentary pen and bolt out the door.
