Love at First Sight

Director: Vanessa Caswill
Year Released: 2023
Rating: 1.0

NYU student Hadley (Haley Lu Richardson) misses her departing flight to London in order to attend the wedding of her father Andrew (Rob Delaney) and, while waiting for the next plane, has a meet-cute moment with Oliver (Ben Hardy), who's heading home from Yale - when they land in the U.K. they are briefly separated before she tracks him down at his dying mother's "Living Memorial" (she has terminal lung cancer), they bicker and separate ... and then reunite once more at the reception.  As you might tell from the description, it's a by-the-numbers young adult movie with three hideous plot tools (the broken seat belt, the dead cell phone, the backpack) barely holding it together, but Richardson and Hardy do just fine as the leads (she responds favorably to his barrage of statistical information) and England's capital seems like such a great place to start a healthy and long-lasting relationship (it's the Love Actually Effect).  And let's be real: who out there is truly "afraid" of mayonnaise?
