No Such Thing

Director: Hal Hartley
Year Released: 2001
Rating: 2.0

Sarah Polley goes to Iceland to find her fiancé, survives a plane crash and meets up with an alcoholic monster that wants to die (it isn't enough for monsters to be psychotic like Freddy, Jason or Michael Myers - they have to need therapy). She brings him back to New York where they run tests on him; meanwhile, Helen Mirren, looking a lot like Tina Brown, cruelly uses him to make headlines. Doesn't 'come together' in the least - there are lost pieces of a puzzle in there, somewhere - and is very, very sloppy. The "crazy" but "brilliant" Dr. Artaud isn't accidentally named after the great, mad French writer.
