Stars in My Crown

Director: Jacques Tourneur
Year Released: 1950
Rating: 2.0

Starts off rich with atmosphere and life - like Kings Row, it has a delightful view of small town existence - until the last reel when it completely bails on me, becoming intolerably self-righteous and so damn wholesome. Joel McCrea and Dean Stockwell are good as the pastor and the doctor (respectively), and Tourneur makes it clear that both medicine and religion have its place in society - in fact, they're intertwined - but when the Stanley Kramer morality settles in, run for the hills.
