"Certified Circumcised Dick" Mordechai Jefferson Carver (Adam Goldberg), who hasn't been getting a lot of detective work, is "hired" by the Jewish Justice League (led by Peter Coyote, summoning Moshe Dayan) to stop Damian Claus (Andy Dick) - son of recently-slain Santa (Richard Riehle) - from ruining Hanukkah ... and he's assisted by Mohammed Ali Paula Abdul Rahim (Mario Van Peebles) of the Kwanzaa Liberation Front. While this playful take on the blaxploitation genre does come across as a cheaply-made feature length sitcom that's content to giggle at surface-level stereotypes and misperceptions - instead of digging deeper into why individuals of the Jewish faith are so reviled by the tin foil hat crowd - but to its credit it can be quite clever with the wordplay and sight gags ("White Accountant"), and Goldberg balances out being a tough guy and someone who needs his antihistamines in powder form (because of the gas). When I first watched this on Comedy Central twenty years ago at the insistence of a friend I was concerned it would only exacerbate animosity (the ADL had an issue with it) ... but now I realize it's healthy for people from a religious community to be able to laugh at themselves. Ahem ... but also, l'chaim!
