My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Director: Joel Zwick
Year Released: 2002
Rating: 1.5
Here is another case of a comedy that has gained a reputation as being 'positively hysterical' and a 'must-see' by people (one friend said she almost 'peed herself') that I could only muster two or three laughs from. I guess it's because I never bought the relationship in the first place - it's simply using the 'clash-of-cultures' as a place to poke fun at upper-class conservatism (WASP parents looking upon Greek family as a pack of savages) and familial herd mentality (close-knit Greeks view WASPs as being dull and hermetic) - or the lead character's radical transformation from introvert to bubbly extrovert. Running gag involving a certain aqua-colored cleaning fluid very amusing, Joey Fatone is still very Italian.
