Space pilot Mills (Adam Driver) goes on a two-year mission from his home planet of Somaris - because he has a sick daughter and needs the money for her treatments - but his vessel gets hit by asteroids, they crash land on an unknown planet, most of the crew is killed except for a girl named Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), so they have to fight off a variety of creatures to get to an escape shuttle.  Here's an odd case where the missing back story would have been considerably more interesting than what is actually on screen: apparently this takes place sixty-five million years ago - when dinosaurs inhabited Earth - and there was a technologically-advanced "pre-human" race just flying around the galaxy ... without affordable health coverage?  What remains is a standard run-and-climb action movie where the only two characters speak different languages and can't understand each other and the directors throw every single reptile species at them, including the T. Rex.  Say what you will about season one of HBO's The Last of Us (which I'll admit is a little drawn out) ... at least it's engaging.
