Alice, Darling
Director: Mary Nighy
Year Released: 2022
Rating: 0.0
Alice (Anna Kendrick) goes on a "girls trip" with her friends Tess (Kaniehtiio Horn) and Sophie (Wunmi Mosaku) to stay at a lake house but the week-long holiday is ruined when she starts reflecting on her relationship with artist Simon (Charlie Carrick), who is controlling and abusive ... and then he actually appears. For first-time director Nighy (daughter of Bill), it's a yet another #YesAllMen movie that just shows Kendrick in close-up looking distraught and literally yanking her hair out ... and then there's a "subplot" about a missing girl that leads absolutely nowhere. In the future, screenwriter Alanna Francis might want to spend a little more time focusing on developing a proper narrative and writing better dialogue - the line "cocaine isn't even that good" is certainly worthy of a chuckle. I'm not saying to do it or anything, but let's be real....
