Emma
Director: Douglas McGrath
Year Released: 1996
Rating: 2.0
Costume "comedy" - loosely adapted from the Austen novel - about meddlesome Emma (Gwyneth Paltrow) who interferes with everyone's romantic life but cannot deal with her own. Might appeal to women more than I - I cannot stand gossipmongers, for they do more to hurt other people than they can imagine - not to mention people who find dated wit to be amusing; the picture is overlong and smug. Jeremy Northam is good as one of Emma's close confidants.
