Martin
Director: George A. Romero
Year Released: 1977
Rating: 3.0
Martin is a vampire ... sort-of ... in this offbeat Romero picture, containing both subtext and violence. He plays out his young adult/adolescent Oedipal fantasies by drugging and 'raping' older (and unconscious, 'gaze-less') women, then drinking their blood; to 'cope' with this lifestyle, he's chosen a radio talk show as a psychotherapy forum, discussing his motives and viewpoints (the DJ of the program - naturally - thinks of him as a novelty). Effective use of black and white stock in combination with color to give some of it an early horror "look."
