The loveable burger-flipping Belcher family - which consists of neurotic father Bob (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin), his upbeat wife Tina (Dan Mintz) and their peculiar children Linda (John Roberts), Louise (Kristen Schaal) and Gene (Eugene Mirman) - not only can't raise enough money to pay off their bank loan, but soon find a sinkhole has formed in front of their restaurant ... which contains a dead body. I've seen a few of the episodes of the TV show so I had a vague familiarity with the characters going in, but this never felt like more than an extended version of the program: generally speaking, "feature film" versions tend to be significantly "larger" in scope, whereas this is essentially confined to the same neighborhood for its duration. The whole "kids solving a crime" angle is weak, but the comedic timing of the one-liners ("This is like the worst rave ever," laments Gene) keeps it light.
