Rogue biotech company Biosyn Genetics - run by Dr. Dodgson (Campbell Scott, looking like Tim Cook) - has been really screwing things up: first they kidnap human clone Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), which leads her adoptive parents Owen (Chris Pratt) and his girlfriend Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) to go chasing after her ... and they're also destroying the environment by genetically modifying giant locusts, which forces "legacy characters" Ellie (Laura Dern), Grant (Sam Neill) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) to intervene.  Not only is the plotting kind of wonky, but the "sense of wonder" that the original invoked (way back in 1993) is long-gone: it's just a series of chase sequences strung together rather unimaginatively and the special effects, if nice (in parts), aren't all that different from what the latest PlayStation or Xbox can generate nowadays.  In the end, we're simply watching CGI reptiles gnaw at each other - the Homo sapiens running around their feet - with their food shortage woes - are merely a secondary attraction.
