Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Director: Jeff Fowler
Year Released: 2022
Rating: 1.0
In part two of the series based on the wildly profitable video games by Sega, banished Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) teams up with the brawny (but dense) echidna Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba) in order to find the mythical Master Emerald and control the planet - there to counterattack them is your lightning fast (but very immature) Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and his new fox friend Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey). As with the first one, it's exclusively for the kids (and overeager man-children): the "jokes" are mediocre and the running time could have clocked in at a more efficient ninety minutes, with too much time devoted to a subplot involving a wedding. If I had to pick some positives out (it's not easy), the opening and closing sequences are cleverly done ... and it has some off-beat moments, like Sonic getting into a dance battle in, of all places, Siberia. At least Carrey is having a heck of a good time - nice job sneaking in the "there were good people on both sides" line.
