Ambulance

Director: Michael Bay
Year Released: 2022
Rating: 1.5

Former soldier Will (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who needs money for his wife's operation, asks for a loan from his adoptive brother (and career criminal) Danny (Jake Gyllenhaal) but instead ends up robbing a bank and going on a high speed drive through Los Angeles in a stolen ambulance with wounded police officer Zach (Jackson White) and paramedic Cam (Eiza González) in the back.  I haven't seen the 2005 Danish movie it's based on, but I somehow doubt they used as many swirling and spinning cameras and drones that Bay does - the man simply thrives on overkill - in what amounts to a sporadically tense but excessive and thoughtless two hour car chase.  The "style is substance" crowd should take a crack at it, but to me the hubris is overbearing: he even has his characters reference two of his other movies.
