Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom

Director: Evgeny Afineevsky
Year Released: 2015
Rating: 3.0

Important on-the-street reporting of the Maidan Uprising in Ukraine - which took place between November 2013 and February 2014 - where the people became tired of having a Russian puppet regime (embodied by Viktor Yanukovych, who took orders from the Kremlin) control their everyday lives ... and dream of becoming part of the European Union.  In light of the events currently unfolding - I'm writing this on March 8, 2022, with Russian forces illegally invading the country and most of the world condemning the war - this, despite being basically propaganda (and with some troubling neo-Nazi elements it does not condemn), is still of historical significance, and shows a country that's willing to get beaten and shot at (by the riot police and various mercenaries) for their basic human rights.  A nation needs to have the ability to decide its own fate and this ends on a relatively high note, but the Russian War (and Disinformation) Machine continues rolling along.  Ring, ring ... The Hague is on the line.
