Looking for Venera

Director: Norika Sefa
Year Released: 2021
Rating: 0.0

Teenager Venera (Kosovare Krasniqi) is growing up in a multigenerational family where she can't get any privacy and she spends most of her time hanging around her boy-crazy friend Dorina (Rozafa Celaj), tries to learn English, goes to a party (and comes home late) and basically just ... mopes around.  It's rare to see a movie (at least for me) from the "partially recognized" nation of Kosovo and I sort of wish Sefa had more to say about the country's current political situation, but she's way too directionless and seems to think recording a bunch of people in a room eating and/or talking is inherently interesting (it is not).  It's more than a little unnerving, too, that most of the young men here are portrayed as being sexual predators: I guess #MeToo hasn't spread to all parts of the world yet....
