The Nowhere Inn

Director: Bill Benz
Year Released: 2020

Faux-documentary centered on musician St. Vincent - also known as Annie Clark - and her Masseduction tour with "good friend" Carrie Brownstein being asked to record it, only for Carrie to become frustrated that Annie is not, in fact, Keith Moon and she'd rather just play Scrabble and her Nintendo Switch or read.  I guess I appreciate, on some level, them attempting to make some sort of "joke" out of back stage antics of musicians (Dakota Johnson appears out of the blue to introduce some kink into the mix), but it's very disorganized and seems like a longer - and even more unfunny - episode of Portlandia ... and the last twenty minutes are worse than some student films.  But as a die-hard fan of both individuals, I'd like to leave this on a positive note and strongly recommend Clark's Marry Me, Actor and Strange Mercy LPs and offer praise for Brownstein's work with Sleater-Kinney (Dig Me Out, The Hot Rock and All Hands on the Bad One being three favorites).
