The Matrix Resurrections

Director: Lana Wachowski
Year Released: 2021
Rating: 1.0

Completely unnecessary fourth Matrix movie - with Lilly Wachowski, Hugo Weaving, Laurence Fishburne, etc. wisely sitting it out - is set decades (if not longer) after The Matrix Revolutions and has Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves) working as a video game designer who is taking medication to keep him sane (the fabled "blue pill") but is asked to "save" the life of Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss), who's trapped inside the Matrix (or something like that).  At first I kind of appreciated the "meta-ness" of it all - several walls are broken, Warner Bros. demands a sequel, etc. - but the clips back to the first three movies become tiresome, as is the rest of it: slow-motion is abused continuously and there's a lot of sophomoric philosophizing to go with Keanu's trademark blunt delivery.  Considering who the director is - and the fact that the word "binary" gets tossed around - this is all a lot of work to reunite a heterosexual couple, isn't it?
