Over-praised political Disease of the Week movie, this time the Disease Is War, and Jon Voight lost his legs because of it. Jane Fonda's own husband (Bruce Dern) leaves for Vietnam and gets lonesome - or at least, gets fired up to help some ailing vets - and meets the cantankerous Voight and (surprise) they fall in love. Their meeting and falling for each other is a plot contrivance - what does she see in him? - and the picture's anti-war stance is simply sucking up to the audience. Watching this only made me marvel more about what Stone managed to pull off in Born on the Fourth of July, which (thankfully) never had Cruise's character with a typical love interest (prostitutes don't count).
