The Wild Ride
Director: Harvey Berman
Year Released: 1960
Rating: 1.0
"Hot-headed" race car driver Johnny (Jack Nicholson) - out to "sow his wild oats" - tries to kill a cop, drinks a ton of beer, cheats in a big race (by running his competitors off the road) and then steals Nancy (Georgianna Carter), the girlfriend of his "friend" Dave (Robert Bean). While it's quite crude and cheaply made - Roger Corman was the executive producer - the only reason to watch this quickie is, naturally, Nicholson himself, who is so arrogant, repulsive and anti-social it becomes a (relatively brief) waiting period before he gets his inevitable comeuppance. Without him, it would have been nigh-unwatchable ... especially with that repulsive soundtrack.
