Prisoners of the Ghostland

In post-apocalyptic Japan, The Governor (Bill Moseley) rules over Samurai Town, but when Bernice (Sofia Boutella), one of his (ahem) "granddaughters," flees from him, he rigs Hero (Nicolas Cage) with explosives and sends him out to retrieve her.  One would think that combining one of the more excessive directors with one of the United States' most eccentric performers would make this must-watch spectacle, but this is an incredibly weak attempt at either a Western or a movie about ronin, with its incoherent screenplay (a Sono staple) and lack of cohesion.  The wild-eyed Cage can only flinch and sneer through most of it, and ironically the day before I watched this he was in trouble with the authorities in Nevada (and mistaken for a homeless person): I guess in some ways he never left Las Vegas at all....
