He's All That
Director: Mark Waters
Year Released: 2021
Rating: 1.0
Gender-flipped remake of 1999's She's All That has "social media influencer" Padgett Sawyer (Addison Rae, who currently has some 80 million followers on TikTok) taking a "bet" with her friends that she can turn crusty photographer/wannabe punk Cameron (Tanner Buchanan) into the "Prom King" in an effort to increase her online fanbase, but of course he finds out and is hurt. As tempting as it might be for "the haters" to bash on Rae's big screen debut, she's not that bad of an actress - the problem is with them going over all-too-familiar territory (with expected twists) that was already parodied way back in 2001 with Not Another Teen Movie ("Wait, the dude who looks like James Franco with the beanie and the New York Dolls T-shirt is actually handsome?"). It's mostly tolerable teen fodder for a while before the end, when the "dance off" and lesbian angle and Buchanan actually riding a white horse just left me shaking my head.
