Fletch

Director: Michael Ritchie
Year Released: 1985
Rating: 1.5

Undercover reporter Irwin M. "Fletch" Fletcher (Chevy Chase) is looking into drugs being dealt on the beaches of California - by posing as a junkie and befriending the locals - before he gets brought in by one of the top guys at an aviation company, Alan Stanwyk (Tim Matheson), who asks him if he'd accept a cash payment to kill him because he has "bone cancer" ... which Fletch realizes is very suspicious.  The driving force behind this is Chase's unique blend of sarcasm and arrogance because the story is complete nonsense from start to finish: he continuously finds himself in the most ridiculous situations that, logically speaking, he should not be able to wiggle out of ... and yet he does, over and over again, without a hint of reality hindering it as it goes on.  I realize the 80's were not the best decade for music, but I would rather listen to a de-tuned radio for an hour instead of the "score" by Harold Faltermeyer.
