Chaos Walking

On a recently colonized planet called "New World" - its inhabits include young Todd (Tom Holland), his father (Demián Bichir) and the town mayor (Mads Mikkelsen) - there are no females (they were all killed in war) and the men are afflicted with this condition called "The Noise" in which their inner thoughts are projected outwardly; when a foreign ship crashes and they find its lone survivor Viola (Daisy Ridley), they decide they have to kill her. As a plot device, "The Noise" has to be one of the dumbest ideas ever conceived and it makes everyone look like a schizophrenic with a purple cloud around their heads and the movie - based on the young-adult novel by Patrick Ness - appears to be some reductive statement about misogynistic tendencies that has no practical application in the real world. There are only two credited screenwriters for this near-total disaster (Ness and Christopher Ford), but allegedly many more took a crack at it (including Charlie Kaufman) - you could have resurrected Ben Hecht and William Faulkner and it wouldn't have been any better.
