Earwig and the Witch

Director: Gorō Miyazaki
Year Released: 2020
Rating: 0.0

As a mere baby, Earwig is dropped off at an orphanage, where she forms a friendship with a little boy named Custard - later, she's adopted by an odd couple who treat her poorly, so out of revenge she learns magic (with the help of a talking cat).  It has all the usual Studio Ghibli elements - it's even directed by Hayao's son - but done with unfortunately kind of ugly 3DCG: much of it looks like cut scenes from video games, and they're going to need a lot of time to catch up with the technology used by Pixar and Dreamworks.  Miyazaki the Father was always dismissive of using computers, so I'm not sure what changed his mind - maybe the prospect of making a ton of money?  Keeping up with the times?  Because this was most definitely a mistake.
