The Beast (2020) review

Tormented war vet Leonida (Fabrizio Gifuni), who has a poor relationship with his son, is put to the test when his six-year-old daughter Teresa (Giada Gagliardi) gets kidnapped from a burger joint and has to track her down, getting beaten up a lot in the process.  I'm guessing the 'inspiration' for this genre piece is Liam Neeson's 2008 hit Taken, but it doesn't feel like it has the same sense of urgency, instead trying to make it something of a 'serious drama.'  Part way through it there's a music video-type section set to "In This Shirt" by The Irrepressibles where I expected the cast of the movie to turn to the camera and start singing along (except they don't) ... it's best to leave that sort of digression to early Paul Thomas Anderson.
