Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar

Director: Josh Greenbaum
Year Released: 2021
Rating: 0.5

Two retail workers, Barb (Annie Mumolo) and Star (Kristen Wiig), get laid off from their jobs at Jennifer Convertibles and decide to go on vacation to Vista Del Mar in Florida - meanwhile, an overly ambitious (and pale) supervillain (Wiig again) sends her henchman Edgar (Jamie Dornan) to that same location to unleash killer mosquitos.  The attempted 'mockery' of "Midwest Nice" (and all its passive-aggressiveness) is easy bait (because the 'Live, Laugh, Love' crowd is kind of a joke in itself) and the 'quirky' moments (song numbers, a crab that sounds like Morgan Freeman, a bar pianist singing about boobies and death) aren't funny at all. It's a glorified Saturday Night Live bit stretched to feature length, although maybe fans of Bridesmaids might be more receptive to it.
