Locked Down
Director: Doug Liman
Year Released: 2021
Rating: 1.5
A couple living in London - the oddly paired ex-con Paxton (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and corporate executive Linda (Anne Hathaway) - who are about ready to fully break up during the COVID-19 lockdown instead put their heads together to steal a rare diamond from Harrods Department store. Starting a movie with lots of video chat doesn't exactly have it hit the ground running - I mean, we're all still doing that as of now (January 21, 2021) - and Liman, normally known for making movies with a bit of energy, seems unfortunately held down himself by our current living conditions: it concludes with what has to be one of the most lackadaisical heists ever recorded on screen (they 'take a break' midway through to have a picnic on the roof of the building). I also find it very hard to believe so many Brits have no idea who Edgar Allan Poe is: is that some sort of inside joke I'm not aware of?
