The New Mutants
Director: Josh Boone
Year Released: 2020
Rating: 1.0
After surviving a dangerous tornado that took out her whole tribe, Dani (Blu Hunt) is locked in a secret facility - run by sketchy Dr. Reyes (Alice Braga) - with other teens that have superpowers: Rahne (Maisie Williams) turns into a werewolf, Illyana (Anya Taylor-Joy with a suspicious accent) has a metallic arm (and a pet dragon), Sam (Charlie Heaton) can fling himself around, etc. It starts off as a coming-out tale ("What's your true nature?") - just like the other "coded" X-Men movies - but the rest of it is a poorly-paced and sloppy effort about sad and mopey kids, and the "monsters" that pop up are just a physical manifestation of childhood trauma(s). Presumably, they're "cured" when they "tame the evil bear inside them," which I'm fairly certain is not something taught in any noteworthy school of psychiatry.
