The War With Grandpa (2020) review

Middle school student Peter (Oakes Fegley) wages a "turf battle" against his grandfather Ed (Robert De Niro) when his Mom (Uma Thurman) moves him into his bedroom ... so he plays tricks on him like putting a snake in his bed, changing his shaving cream to plaster, replacing the filling in his cookies with poison, etc.  There's something deeply off-putting and repulsive about a young boy aggressively trying to injure (possibly even kill) an older individual, and "screenwriters" Tom Astle and Matt Ember seem to think showing senior citizens fall or get pummeled can pass for "comedy."  Since this was made three years ago (Oakes is currently in high school) and only brought out now in 2020 (presumably because of the pandemic), I wonder if the producers originally planned on digging a giant trench and burying every shred of evidence this was ever conceived in the first place.
