The Outlaw
Director: Howard Hawks and Howard Hughes
Year Released: 1943
Rating: 3.0
Takes extreme liberties with history - Doc Holliday partners up with Billy the Kid? - but is successful to a degree - it only unravels a little in the middle when it meanders aimlessly (we are told a joke has come and gone with a wa-wa-wa-waaaa sound - very dumb) or whenever Jane Russell has to say something (her 'performance' is more noted for her appearance than for her talent). Walter Huston is the real star here, and if there's anything *really* special about this picture, he's it.
