A novelist (Rashida Jones) - who has a bit of the ol' Writer's Block going on - suspects her husband (Marlon Wayans) of cheating on her, so she gets in touch with her world-weary Dad (Bill Murray) to spy on him. This remix of Lost in Translation can't help but seem like a step backwards for Ms. Coppola, except it's even more of a mope-fest and annoyingly self-pitying: she relies on Murray's effortless cool - he's fond of telling intriguing factoids about birthdays being pagan rituals, Russians feeding cosmonauts caviar and the strange practices of Canadian cults - for any kind of substance or flavor, and a movie centered on him as an art dealer would have been more engaging. Of course, all the fretting amounts to paranoia: unlike the Ribisi character in that Oscar-winning 2003 film, Wayans' active businessman is true-blue (and, indeed, a bit of a dork).
