Mulan

Director: Niki Caro
Year Released: 2020
Rating: 1.0

Live-action remake of the 1998 animated movie has Mulan (Yifei Liu) stepping in for her elderly (and handicapped) father to fight in a war against the Huns, who use magic and want to topple the Emperor.  While I was never a fan of the original, it's far better than this: Disney continues to dig through its back catalog (out of a lack of ideas?) to muddy up their legacy.  It's intended to be a kids' movie about loyalty ("Devotion to family is an essential virtue") but it also, paradoxically, is a bloodless war movie which worked better in cartoon format - the fighting sequences appear, to me at least, just a little tacky (like Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers).  Notably absent like the rest of the humor: the beloved Mushu.
