Evening With Beverly Luff Linn, An

Director: Jim Hosking
Year Released: 2018
Rating: 0.0

Lulu (Aubrey Plaza), who just got fired from her job at a coffee shop by her own husband (Emile Hirsch), goes in search of Beverly Luff Linn (Craig Robinson), a "poet" that she dated years prior and is still in love with.  I get that there's a 'niche' type of deadpan absurdist comedy out there - spearheaded by the likes of Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim and Rick Alverson (among others) - but this ... thing is deeply unfunny (hope you like pudgy people without clothes, fart jokes and people eating with their mouths open) and shamefully pointless - I consider Craig Robinson one of the most hilarious people out there, so naturally the script has him only grunt for the majority of the movie.  If we weren't living in (relatively) civilized times, I'd have recommended the two "screenwriters" be fitted with thumbscrews.
